Wine Manufacturing Process
To drink a glass of Champagne, all you need to do is order for it and drown the champagne down your throats. Did you know that a complex manufacturing process forms the background for the champagne to come from sour grapes?
Yes, wine manufacturing process produces wine off fruits in most cases and the result is there to be seen. Wine has indeed been a hit with people having a taste for quality and finesse. Wines can be differentiated depending on their alcohol content, color and the type of wine. Generally, wines have an alcohol content of 10% - 14%.
How is wine manufactured from the fruits?
The most popular brands of wine are manufactured from grapes. The grapes used in wine manufacturing are known as Wine Grapes. Unlike other manufacturing processes, a wine manufacturing process takes into count the raw materials that dictate the wine manufacturing process.
- The Manufacturing process ideally starts with wine makers observing the wine grapes with a refractometer. Many wine analysts believe that the refractometer experiment is critical for the wine-makers to get high quality fruits for the wine. The first process would thus include harvesting and crushing of grapes which would in essence select the grapes required for wine-making. Mechanical Harvesters are used for this purpose.
- Fermenting the must - This is a critical step for the wine making process where the must is fermented before the wine-making enters its penultimate steps. The treatment of the must is highly dependant on the type of wine which would need to be produced. In case of white wine, the grape skins are removed off the must before the must is fermented. This is different in the process for a red wine which requires the crushed grape including the skin to go into the fermentation tank.
- Wine-Ageing - How many times have we heard that wines taste good when they are old? Sounds clichéd, but that is the truth in terms of wine-making. After the wine is fermented, it is stored, filtered for months and sometimes, years. The wine maker may decide to store the wines in wine cellars to keep it cool but many wine-making companies use stainless steel tanks for storing the wines. These tanks are epoxy lined and are temperature-controlled by water running through the lining of these tanks.
After the Wine-storing process, it is filtered many times to get the high-quality wines. The filtering process would include passing the wine through number of filters where low temperature is maintained in storing the wine. After their last stage of filtering during the last stages of ageing the wine is ready to bottled and more specifically, ready to be served.
